Korean Merger Gets FTC Approval
Hyundai Electronics Ltd. and LG Electronics Ltd. have passed the approval of the Federal Trade Commission in regards to any anti-trust issues involving their potential merger. "We have not cleared all the reviews worldwide but from a U.S. standpoint we have cleared that hurdle," said Mark Ellsberry, vice president of marketing at Hyundai Electronics America. The proposed merger valued at $2.1 billion would make Hyundai/LG one of the largest semiconductor manufacturers in the world especially in the DRAM memory front. "We think the money will change hands by the second week of July," Ellsberry said. Hyundai plans to integrate all the LG employees in the United States and Ellsberry said that is probably going to be a worldwide strategy.

I wonder how the digestion of a merger like this effects buying patterns? Somehow, it doesn't seem like it could be good.

Regards, Mark

PS Does Tom Richardson still work at ESI?
