Xircom Seeks to Identify Individual Claiming to Be an Employee for Posting False Statements Online

THOUSAND OAKS, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--June 16, 1999--Xircom, Inc. (Nasdaq:XIRC - news), the world leader in connectivity solutions for mobile computing professionals, filed a lawsuit on May 5, 1999, in the Ventura County, Calif., Superior Court to identify and recover damages from an anonymous individual (''John Doe''), claiming to be an employee, who posted several messages on the Yahoo! stock message boards.

Xircom asserts that the information posted in the chat room was unlawful because the statements contained false information about Xircom and its products and have caused harm to the company.

As a publicly held company Xircom expects and encourages free and open comment on its business. However, the company does not tolerate false and harmful statements of fact about its business practices and products, particularly by a person claiming to be an employee intending to add undue credibility to their statements. Efforts to continue Xircom's success in the growing mobile connectivity market obligate the company to take legal action to guard its reputation against harmful false statements of fact.

For more detailed information, please visit the Xircom website at www.xircom.com/johndoe. To schedule an interview with a Xircom spokesperson, contact Bethany Burnam at 805/376-6813 or send e-mail to bethany_burnam@xircom.com.

Xircom is issuing this advisory in response to public comments attributed to counsel representing the person John Doe.
