Hey, SI is cool, but it has never been a corporate "free body". There have always been rules, and there has always been dissent of the rules. There are a number of people like myself who were "grandfathered" in (my isn't *that* a sexist statement!)and have never contributed ONE DIME to the support of SI. Some of these people (like myself) are undoubtedly the biggest pains in the ass and the biggest draw on resources of the staff.....and still, nobody at SI has bitched or demanded money from us. That to me says more about the character of the folks running the board than the economic necessity of putting a VERY inconspicuous ad in a corner of the screen.

The Datek ad is not even a flea on the ass of an elephant, it is less than a grain of sand on a beach. If something could be less than insignificant, that's what the Datek ad represents in my mind. In fact I never even NOTICED the damn thing until I clicked on this thread to see what all the ruckus was about.

So, I guess the bitchers and moaners (few as they are) can credit themselves for furthering the cause of something they espouse hatred of....commercialism.

SI is so obviously devoid of overkill advertisement that anyone who would think otherwise is just clueless....at such time as that changes the "dues paid" members can express their displeasure by taking a hike.

It is worth noting that *anyone* can read the messages and utilize the considerable resources of SI without paying a dime. I think the biggest problems here came when people were required to pay for membership. I can accept the premise behind it, but it presumes that people with a hundred bucks to join the club are worth having. Mostly it seems to attract a bunch of whiners who think their money buys them the right to complain.....if it were free that problem wouldn't exist.

Hey Brad, if you ever need a PR guy keep me in mind! Ha!
