Divx' demise helps eliminate consumer confusion over competing DVD players. No longer does a consumer have to choose between a DVD and Divx player. This helps, IMO, because it will now eliminate competing formats. DVD rental outlets will no longer worry that Divx will eat their lunch and will stock more discs. Consumer electronic stores will not have to worry about Divx competition and can confidently stock more DVD players.

CUBE chips could have been used in either player, since Divx is just a DVD player with some added stuff to decode the Divx discs. CUBE was not involved in Divx directly, it merely supplied DVD decoder chips to various manufacturers, some which made both DVD and Divx boxes. Those manufacturers have stated the Divx boxes in production will go out as regular DVD players. Bottom line, the death of Divx should not hurt CUBE at all.
