Jim, RE K7 Launch Issues

Under the original deal of K7 launch as put out by Jerry in Q1 CC:

1. Shipment of K7 to occur in June
2. K7 boxes will appear as early as in July

Additionally, one would expect ORIGINAL K7 launch would include the following (based on the recent K6-III lannch modeld):

3. Speed grades being shipped
4. Pricing
5. Description of Patented Technical features (Like K6-III's trilevel cache)
6. Official Benchmarks
7. Launching partner(s) (CPQ in K6-iii case)

Now it appears that we are going to see a two steps MODIFIED launch for K7:

AMD insisted yestereday that “revenue shipment of K7 will start this month” and the revenue shipment may be announced by a very low profile news release -- nothing fancy here and the release may only say what speed grades are shipping and pricing information and leave all other stuff to a later date.

What are the implications and why are they doing this two steps launch?

Cautiously, I do not see negative implications that might be associated with a modified launch.

K7 is shipping - so, the chip itself has no problem

K7 boxes will still appear in Q3 which also include the July appearance

Sys will ship in early August per JC - So, it's safe to assume that mobo and chipset are also having no problem.

Why do they do this modified launch? Perhaps they wanted to satisfy the longstanding promise of announcing K7 1stH and for whatever marketing reason as Steve pointed out yesterday delay to a later date. That's fine if turned out to be the case later as long as there is no problem with the Chip, chipset and mobo and k7 boxes will appear in July
