Paul,

To penetrate some of the larger business accounts, Dell may have to take existing PCs in trade. Many large corporations have a rigid copy exact philosophy for their vital corporate applications.

Any variations causes them support problems, increased down time, worse customer service, ...

To establish a business relationship, it's worthwhile for Dell to make it easy for the new customer to dispose of existing equipment.

Auctioning 2-3 year old equipment won't take from Dell's existing customer base.

And it will allow Dell to be fiercely competitive in winning even more market share.

JMHO,
Ian.
