Of that list -
Otellini has gotten a lot of visibility at Intel but some say that he has a dislike of bad news which has increasingly isolated him from what's happening and that this tendency has a lot to do with Intel's IA64 credibility gap. Not first on my list - in fact not on my list.

Palmisano has all the right experience and is well known and highly regarded. I think he would be a good choice. I also think he has no interest in leaving IBM. Like Michael Armstrong, Palmisano has already got a great ride, and huge upside if he just plays the rest of his current hand.

Zander might be a dark horse candidate for HP but not for CPQ. Culture clash, wrong skills and background, and he would never leave silicon valley for Houston.

Ray Lane is a good manager but not charismatic - I'm not sure he is up to the job at CPQ. He has missed a couple of key goals at Oracle, which has a much less complex business than CPQ.

So out of that list, the only ones I like are also the ones least likely to take the job.
