<Once the 500Mhz Celeron comes out next month they will have almost identically performing chips from Intel with a $400 difference in ASP.>

I must have missed something. Last I heard, Celeron 500 MHz is coming out August 1st along with Pentium III 600 MHz. And Celeron is still on a 66 MHz bus, which will cripple its performance on high-end applications that require the memory bandwidth. (That's an incredible 7.5:1 multiplier, for all you tech-heads out there.)

Heck, even Pentium III will be moving to a 133 MHz bus and coupled with DRDRAM starting in September (Rambus ramp-up problems aside). Celeron isn't even moving onto a 100 MHz bus until after Y2K.

Seems like there'll be a larger gap between the fastest Celeron and the fastest Pentium III than you originally thought.
