SSB's take on EMC in relation to HP and IBM:

Salomon Smith Barney
Tuesday, June 22, 1999

* EMC and HP formally ended their reselling relationship. We view this positively since it removes any pretenses and questions from customers. We believe EMC has the stronger sales and service organization.
* IBM made what we consider to be a marketing announcement regarding SANs. No major product introductions or fundamental strategic changes.
* EMC revenue and EPS numbers are unchanged (2-1 split #'s below).
Earnings shortfall from HP reselling EMC systems should be made up for by EMC selling directly and in higher margins EMC receives bypassing HP.
* Continuous storage announcements by IBM (Shark announce in July), SUNW with StoreX and HP with HDS, along with the Y2K cloud, should keep EMCs stock ranging from the LOW 50s to HIGH 50s THROUGH THE END OF THE YEAR.
