Consumer VCD scorecard: (new update)

there is no doubt ESST has 50-60% of the VCD chip business in China. However,

how about globally? Don't you think the Chinese buy imports? no kidding.

CUBE:
--------

Funai (Japan)
Aiwa (Japan)
JVC (Japan)
Hyundai (Korea)
Samsung (Korea)
SAST (Shenzen, China)
Panasonic (Japan)
Sony (Japan)
Subor (China)
Changhong (China)
Idall (China)
Gynco (China)
Acer (Taiwan)
Thackral (Singapore)
Philips (wherever)
DML (India)
BPL (India)
Wuhan Stone (China)
SMC (Hong Kong)
(smaller companies are omitted)

ESST:
----------
Shinco (China) <--- an important x-cube customer.
Goldstar (Korea) <--- an important x-cube customer.
Sun Star (China)
Lihahao (Shenzen, China)
Wearnes (Singapore) <-- x cube customer
Sony's one product (Japan)
JinJiang (China) <-- x cube customer
Eastbase (Hong Kong)
others are smaller companies included in:
"Shenzhen Tian-Ji S&T, GuangZhou Sun Star Science, JinJiang Jin-Wei, Shenzhen
Mountain, Dragon Electronics, Shenzhen Zhi-Wei, Sheng-Di, Lanhai Electronics,
HuaQiang Holdings, Star River Co., GuangZhou Tian-Di, Lihohao Electronic,
Shenzhen KaiChung Electronic, Guoke, Qiba, Tiando, Lingming, Bondwell, Tianwei,
Musher, Suntem, Kejian, Norinco, Hau Wei, and Synthesis, all based in China, as well
as BTC and Action, in Taiwan, and SMC in Hong Kong"

Yes, it does seem logical ESST has 50% or more of the China VCD chip market already.

Biggest VCD manufacturers in China:

Shinco
Idall
Subor
JinJiang
Sun Star
Gynco
SAST
and a group of Shenzen based companies.

However, as recent C-Cube design win suggests, many China-based electronics powerhouse who have not entered the VCD market yet, have chosen C-Cube as their
technology & decoder provider while branding the C-Cube brand. I sincerely believe
C-Cube is making a nice come back with its latest CL680 decoder. (and perhaps,
more VCD products in the pipeline.)
Now, lets check the consumer DVD score card as composed by David Nadalin:

CUBE: (ZiVA, single-chip DVD solution)

=====
Aiwa (Japan)
Samsung (Korea)
Panasonic (Matushita is a fab supplier of C-Cube. they have rights to manufacture their
own chips based on C-Cube design for internal usage or sales to other OEM. but such
production is subject to capacity limitation and royalty fees)
Toshiba (currently using their own 12 chip solution, but endorse C-Cube DVD
solution)

ESST:
=====
(to be announced hopefully)

Now lets check Miscellaneous section:

CUBE:
-----
MPEG-1 single-chip codec encoders
MPEG-2 encoders
JPEG
Set-Top Design
MPEG-2 set-top decoders
Digital Video consultant

ESST:
-----
PC Audio chip
PC Modem chip
