I saw ObjecTime Developer at the ESC, and it seemed neat to me. Of course a quick demo leaves unanswered many questions about practical limitations and ramifications, costs, etc.

The application demonstrated development of code for two PCS-type phones connecting through a server. Graphical renditions of the phones lent realism to simulated communications to test out the code the demonstrator developed on the fly.

I described the demo because it got us onto a related subject: intelligence inside portable phones. I liked the notion that we were programming for a portable phone using VxWorks. The demonstrator indicated that he believed most portable phones today use small 8-bit microprocessors to control functionality, so the demonstration was somewhat stretched in that regard, but he had been approached at the show by an unnamed phone equipment manufacturer that was contemplating upgrading to a 32-bit processor to implement additional functionality.

And it was true that ObjecTime only targeted VxWorks, which the demonstrator seemed to imply was sufficient.
