Douglas,

In French, we'd utter the following adage: Qui sème le vent récolte la tempête, that is Sow the wind and reap the whirlwind...

I guess that fascist Serbs have sown enough wind throughout the Balkans for them to finally get backfired with the current whirlwind of retaliation. Now, some media indulging in bigotry are kicking up a right royal fuss about these maltreated Serbs who've been abandoned in Kosovo! But hey, Serbs have never accounted for more than 10% of the total Kosovo populace: so, they should have thought twice before expelling over 1.8 million Albanians from their homeland!

Anyway, here's an interesting aftereffect stemming from the Kosovo crisis:

Clinton says NATO is ready to fight repression in Europe, Africa

SKOPJE, June 22 (AFP) - Praising NATO for its campaign in Kosovo, US President Bill Clinton said Tuesday that the alliance could intervene elsewhere in Europe or in Africa to fight repression.

"In Africa or central Europe, we will not allow, only because of differences in ethnic background or religion or racism, people to be attacked. We will stop that," Clinton told US troops gathered at the Skopje airport.

"We can do it now. We can do it tomorrow, if it is necessary, somewhere else," he said.

Clinton earlier visited the Stenkovec camp where he got a rousing welcome from the refugees who chanted "Clinton, Clinton," or "USA, USA" or "NATO, NATO."

As an allegedly former Carter Administration bigwig, what's your take on such a bold, far-sighted statement? Obviously, this was aimed at France, the only European power whose African agenda might ''interfere'' with the US's... But, as you might be aware of, since the end of the Cold War, Israel can no longer display herself as the foremost Western post in the Middle East.... As rogue States such as Syria, Libya, Iraq, or Yemen can no longer be labelled as pro-Soviet Islamic dens, likewise Israel can no longer play both ends against the middle. Hence, the need for Israel to balance out the US's overwhelming clout in the Middle East with some other geopolitical heavyweight. Therefore, the pro-Israeli lobby's worrying about NATO conceals a deeper concern about a future Pax Americana that nobody will ever be able to challenge --whether in Europe, Africa, or the Middle East. And that's how Israel might have to play Europe against her sugar-daddy Uncle Sam --Africawise...

Regards,
Gustave.
