Dear John; Well, I see it like this. FIRST comes the product and service. Then comes the price. On the low end where perhaps anything "will do" there likely will be Commodity type pricing. On the high end MUST NOT FAIL pricing will be the last consideration. I think everyone agrees EMC dominates the high end. I suppose IBM and SUNW are perfectly capable of EVENTUALLY being an equal on the high end. But it will cost them a LOT OF MONEY. Why would they want to do that and THEN have a price war?? Last I knew they have stockholders too. Personally, I think EMC is currently in the "Cat Birds" seat. If they choose, they can compete pricewise on the low end and keep their margins on the high end thus making it even more difficult for the competitors to climb the ladder while not really giving up much in total margin and making it up in volume. Just my guess though. JDN
