>Currently the cable guy is spending half his time installing >software and hardware at the customer site - the subscription >rate could double if ATHM would just out source this.
Not true. TCI is already outsourcing the installation of SW and NIC cards - I am a subscriber and talked at length with the guy who did that for me, during my install. He told me the name of his company, which I have forgotten, but it WAS an outsourcing arrangement. There was also a TCI guy there who only tested the cable line signal, installed a filter between the line to the computer and the other (TV-hookup) cable lines.
Regarding subscription rate increases, last night on the local news they had a story about @Home and how it is becoming popular here (Rochester, MN). In a city of 60-70k, they have 1,000 subs in 6 months. They started out doing 40 installs per week, then upped it to 80, and now to 100. Their install people are working in shifts so they are doing installs 16 hours per day. They interviewed a local cable guy for all that info - basic conclusion is they are absolutely swamped. A partner of TCI (Bresnan) is the local cable Co, was TCI until a few months ago. My connection has been flawless - always there. |
