MH,
Also, I will admit the RMBS thread is a bit over the top, and I try and bridle that enthusiasm but it is difficult. This is one soap opera stock, that's for sure, you either love it or hate it!
Neutral here. By coincidence, I posted on the Intel thread not long after your post here that the Rambus thread was mostly a love-in, like the Dell thread. Also said, after my post of yesterday here was dragged over there, that one guy implied that I was from another planet. That's just because I said I wasn't sure about the whole Rambus thing!
One other guy mentioned the benefits of Rambus' narrow data bus, what, 8 or 16 bits worth, and how that can save cost for Mobo designers, I think. Yes, but having to run it at 400 MHz sends the cost of the mobo back up because of need for much tighter impedance control material, lower Zo and higher power. Also, R&D to lay out and bring up the sucker (extra very nicely paid Silicon Valley EEs required, thank you) quickly blows away any narrow bus savings. Then there are the multi-million dollar testers, by the handful probably, that the DRAM vendors each need to buy from HP or Teradyne because nothing they have now tests at the frequencies needed. They'll love that over across the big pond. This soap will go on.
