DW knows the value of internet assets better than anyone else IMHO. He will not overpay. I'm sure he's negotiating hard with CPQ, and given CPQ's current state, CMGI has some leverage here. CPQ probably wants to focus on its core business, and can't be bothered with an AltaVista spinoff if what they can get from CMGI approximates what they might get from an IPO. I'm sure that any deal will also tie-in CPQ to the AltaVista site (newly redesigned, no doubt). CPQ has tremendous access to large corporate customers & also retail. The value of access to them could be huge. Like I said, DW has a better idea of asset value than any of us. He has a deskfull of alternative investments and will not put $ into Altavista if he can make more money for us elsewhere. cm
