Some odd things ARE explained, though-

1) Nbase/Xyplex branding. Many of us had bitched about the lack of MRV branding on new products- instead the company is going for Nbase/Xyplex branding. If you are going to spin somebody off, this makes sense.

2) MRVC as a holding company- if so, why does MRVC have any "industry" other than holdings? If there is Nbase/Xyplex, Charlotte's, and NewAccess, doesn't it make sense to treat MRV Optical as another arm? As it is, the the profits of MRVOptical are wrapped in with Nbase developments... etc. Not transparent enough. This move would make sense in that regard.

3) If Optics is selling to the entire fiberoptics electronics industry, then companies may see MRV having a wdm product or a router product as a competetive threat, and secrets would be disclosed by dealing with MRVOptical. If MRVOpital is separate, this might be seen as a positive for optical components and subcontracting of critical parts.

4) AGAINST- so much for the vertical integration idea. Perhaps good riddance. You can always borrow engineers inside this hypothetical micro-kiretsu, and charge consulting fees back and forth to balance the books...

Greg- I am not disagreeing that the facts are all in. My comment is that the company is setting itself up to be able to sell. They may or may not.

Just like in the CC where Noam said he would sell at a price "an order of magnitude" above $8- this is a change from "won't ever sell for any price."

The company may be up for sale.

Management has confirmed in the last CC, the moves are being made, and now we have another article saying it could happen.

Anyway- I think it could be good news. I also like Sector's analysis on fair pricing. $12 is very low- but we just saw $10 a few days ago- lots of fear left.
