We we did get to see SJ at the SFIGLFF, last night. We all know the story line: boy runs away from home to join the circus, in this case the stock car racing circuit. I won't give too much away. I know how some folks can't stand it when someone tells them all about a film they plan on seeing. However, it was much more complex than I expected. The main theme of the movie is unrequited love. The love in question being between two young men is the reason why the film was included in this festival. The film has a lot of humor in it, much of it intended. However, it is loaded with cliche. It's not bad. It will probably play well in major urban areas. There is no gratuitous sex or violence, although sex and violence are what this film is about. It will probably get a PG-13 rating and be a hit among boys 12 to 15 from So. Cal. It will get one and a half to two stars from reviewers. In San Francisco, the little man will be in his seat, clapping. After the showing, there was a get together with the principals, including TC, GVZ, and NP who introduced the film to the audience. Unfortunately, the hour was late and we are early risers, we couldn't participate in the post viewing discussions. On the whole, the audience liked the film. I think we have a winner, if the demographics don't get in the way. |
