Please explain how anyone could make a buck firking with any of those joints. If you do not believe that Bosnians and Kosovars were being defended by US and NATO intervention you need your head swamped out and refilled with brains.

What occurs and why they occur are often separate. While I'll agree that the Bosnians are now being protected against an attack that was at the very least intensified and arguably triggered by the NATO action, I believe the whole operation was political in nature.

Military action and political problems always seem to have a peculiar timing connection, and with this administration in particular. Also, it would seem that when Europeans kill each other with guns because of ethnic differences we're morally obligated to get involved but when Africans kill each other with machetes for the exact same reasons we can turn a blind eye. I guess there are more TV cameras in "civilized" countries. Depending on your point of view, we're either in too many places (my point of view) or in not nearly enough.

Standing armies such as we have are used to enforce the political will of the United States the rest of the world, not for protecting the US. This is one reason why the pre-Civil War United States had only a standing Navy (because the capital and ships required made it impossible to "call up" a navy) and relied on state militias to provide an Army for the defense of the US. Unfortunately, we're required by the nature of modern warfare to have a standing Army. I think that everyone can see that it's being used in exactly the way that was feared. (Quite a few things changed after the Civil War, but any attempt to discuss the reasons for and the consequences of the Civil War in any terms but freeing the slave is always attacked as racist and is therefore a dead end topic.)

Since it would appear that we have irreconcilably different opinions on this topic I'd like to terminate this discussion and get back to talking about stocks.
