Your English really is surprisingly good. Anyway, I have never had the persistence to learn any language really well. I have a "reading knowledge" of French, which means that I can read a passage of De Touqueville without much trouble (but then, Paris Match is harder because of the slang!). I have a smattering of other languages. The best is Greek. I used to be able to read the New Testament in Greek without too often having to reach for the dictionary. I have not tried for awhile. Anyway, I do not trust myself to compose in French, so I do admire your ability to handle composition in English...
