First of all, Java has been a flop. But SUN is trying to change that by making a different type of Java for every type of device, which is a good move. At this moment, Java is still too big, in-efficient, and resource demanding for consumer embedded devices. Hopefully this will change with the new versions of Java that HP and SUN are about to release. But the drawback is that they will not be fully compatible. Jini on the other hand requires a Java success first, which hasn't happen yet. And secondly, at the current connection speeds, Jini has no place for devices such as set-tops and wireless PDAs. I am not saying that Jini is impossible. But it requires a lot of infrastructure support in many levels of the Internet. As far as I can see, that's is not about to happen any time soon. Besides, Microsoft will do everything to make SUN platforms fail. It certainly has done that to Java on the PC platform.
