OT- Hi Paul Yes, we're beekeepers by profession. Or at least my husband is. I help at busy times of the year, but he says it takes a strong back and a weak mind and I have neither (I like to think <gg>), so....he makes the money and I trade it. The perfect marriage of high and low tech.
It IS very interesting but the bees are indeed in trouble. It is a mite that does them in, they don't winter well unless they are medicated, so most of the "wild" honeybees (which are just escaped domestic ones) die off, which hurts not just the flowers. I think it is estimated that 40% of the food grown in this country depends on artificial pollination.
Don't think this applies to your favorite weed, tho, LOL. BTW, years ago I gathered petition signatures in CA to legalize same. That was of course before war was declared.
What did you do with the swarm?
