Some thoughts on BDE for the night!

WOW, bear with me on this one. Check this out--

What would bde stock do if it were the driving technology behind Sega's new Dreamcast system that will be unveiled on 9-9-99?? Is this big enough to drive bde to new heights?

First, Rande and all, this post alerted me to the fact that a website for Sega sends you to the BDE home site. Then look at Kevin Bermeister's profile - connected in a major way to both NEC and Sega.

Thought this was interesting. Try this link to Sega
sega.com.au

and read the following profile.

Kevin Bermeister
Kevin Bermeister has served as President of the company since October
1996 and as a Director since August 1996. He is also Co-Owner and
Director of Packard Bell / NEC Australia. Packard Bell / NEC Australia is one
of the leading manufacturers and distributors of personal computers
throughout the Australian mass merchant channel.

Kevin has also served as the joint Managing Director of Ozisoft Pty.,
Limited, a leading entertainment software distributor in both Australia and
New Zealand, representing many of the world's leading publishers since its
inception in 1982. He continues to own an equity interest in the
organization.

Since June, 1995, Kevin has also held the position of Co-Chief Executive
Officer of Sega Enterprises Australia, a theme park developer that
launched the construction of a $70 million interactive, indoor theme park at
Darling Harbor in Sydney, Australia. Sega Enterprises is jointly owned by
Mark Dyne, Kevin Bermeister, Sega Japan, Mitsubishi Corp. and Mitsui
Corp. He is also a Director of Jacfun Pty., Ltd. ("Jacfun") which owns the
Darling Harbor property, Darling Walk, on which Sega World is built.

Just some more info from the 1997 annual report --

<<KEVIN BERMEISTER. Mr. Bermeister has served as President of the Company
since October 1996 and as a Director since August 1996. Mr. Bermeister is a
joint managing director of Sega Ozisoft, a position he has held since 1982, and
continues to own an equity interest in Sega Ozisoft. Mr. Bermeister currently is
Chief Executive Officer of Sega Enterprises, a position he has held since June
1995, a director of Nu-Metro and Jacfun Pty., Ltd. ("Jacfun"), and a co-owner
and director of Packard Bell NEC Australia. Mr. Bermeister also serves as a
director of Jewish House of Sydney, Australia, a charitable organization. Jacfun
is the owner of the Darling Harbor property occupied by the Sega Enterprises
indoor theme park.>>

And just a reminder about what he sees for the future. From Press Release on 1998 results:

<<Kevin Bermeister, President of Brilliant Digital, commented, "We are actively working to build upon our achievements in 1998 and remain keenly focused on the Internet. Our opportunities include licensing our development tools and applications to foster the creation of Internet-ready content and to develop a new Internet animation standard for use in entertainment, education and e-commerce.”>>

Now notice - more entertainment investors invest in BDE (AND the former President of NEC - hmmm!)

Hang on - I am getting somewhere.

<<The private investors include Prince Ahmad Bin Khalid Al Saud; entities associated with Tim Helfet, president and CEO, Rysher Entertainment; Martin Schuermann, U.S.A. representative of CLT-UFA; Brent Cohen, formerly president, Packard Bell NEC; and Barry Baeres, president of the German media group, Intertainment Aktiengesellschaft. These investors increase Brilliant's base of shareholders and provide the company with important contacts in the entertainment and content distribution industries. Prince Ahmad has a right to representation on the company's Board of Directors.
>>

Now enter Dream Cast a Sega Product:

Guess what company is driving its graphics??

Its graphics use an NEC product - hmmm!

<<Graphics Core: NEC PowerVRSG
3 million polygons/second peak rendering rate
Perspective-Correct Texture Mapping
Point, Bilinear, Trilinear and Anisotropic Mip-map filtering
Gouraud shading 32-bit z-buffer
Colored light sourcing
Full scene anti-aliasing
Hardware-based Fog
Bump mapping
24-bit color
Hardware-based texture compression
Shadow and Light volumes
Super sampling >>

Now go to this link, click on Dreamcast, then click on games and then images - amazingly similar explanations of the way these games will look and bde technology!!

sega.com

Sounds like a deal completely built around the connections of Kevin Bermeister.

I like this because it will increase exposure (if this is the case) to BDE technology! Who knows what it could lead to.

What I do not know is how entertainment stocks react to such information and what will drive this stock through the roof (and hopefully for the company to be successful in the long term.) Admittedly, I am more concerned with the 3 to 6 month stock price. I would really, really like this stock to do what tune did!!:) (Wouldn't that be nice?)

Am I on target?

What are your views on the affect on the stock that such a deal would have??

OK - just a little more. This site has SEGA Press Releases.

sega.com

After checking it out, my enthusiasm dwindles (just a little). Notice in the following excerpt over 100 developers creating games. To me this says that if bde even makes a couple of games this will not do much for bde. Only if some of the technology in the SEGA machine comes from bde will it create a strong reaction. Don't get me wrong, I think a few more games is a big deal, but to me, they need to be bigger than a game producer (but then again, Rande knows more about this entertainment industry than anyone I know - what are your thoughts.)???
