Brooks Automation To Acquire Domain Manufacturing

CHELMSFORD, Mass. -- Brooks Automation Inc. (BRKS) signed a purchase and sale agreement to acquire Domain Manufacturing Corp. for an undisclosed sum.

Domain Manufacturing develops data analysis and advanced process control.

In a press release Wednesday, Brooks Automation said the transaction will be primarily in cash.

The acquisition, which will be accounted for as a purchase, will initially decrease Brooks Automation's earnings, but will increase income in 2000.

A First Call survey of four analysts put Brooks Automation's 1999 earnings at 2 cents a share and 2000 earnings at 82 cents a share.

Brooks Automation said Domain Manufacturing's 1999 revenues are estimated to be about $10 million.

The acquisition is subject to certain conditions, including bank consents.

Shares of Brooks Automation closed at 27 1/8, down 1/8 or 0.5%, on composite volume of 50,800 shares. Average volume is 160,952 shares.

Brooks Automation, with 1998 revenue of $99.9 million, makes automation systems for semiconductor, data-storage and flat-panel-display makers.
