Taipei, June 24 (Bloomberg) -- Acer Inc., Taiwan's leading computer company, expects to win orders soon from Dell Computer Corp. for more than 1 million notebook and desktop computers, the Economic Daily News reported, citing unnamed industry sources. Acer Chairman Stan Shih and President Simon Lin have visited Dell's headquarters several times to nail down the orders, its first from Dell, the paper said. The deal, if reached, won't affect Compal Electronics Inc. and Quanta Computer Inc., both of which now make notebook computers for Dell, because the Acer orders are for different types of notebook computers, the paper said.
Earlier this month, Acer said it will buy $8 billion worth of products and technology by 2006 from International Business Machines Corp., its biggest customer, while selling ''multi- billions'' of dollars |
