IMHO AMD's future as an independent company depends on 4 things:
1) K7 yields on the .25 process
2) K7 yields on the .18 process
3) Boxmaker adoption rate for the K7
4) Intel pricing on the Coppermine and 600 MHz PIII.

AMD has some control of the first two, a little control on the third and no control on the fourth. Any adverse results on the first three are a bloomin' disaster.

I foresee very good press on the K7 performance in the consumer PC mags and good buzz in the enthusiast market. If the K7 gets through the 4 wickets above, AMD will narrow the losses in Q3. That overhang of K6 chips is gonna be a devil of a problem to work off.

Slightly OT. I heard Joe Kearnen on CNBC this morning repeatedly referring to the Altheon chip (amidst a bout of badmouthing AMD about as bad as you could here on the two threads). I have a gut feeling that the name Athlon might have been sub-optimal. With the exception of Michelob, Heineken and a handful of others, hard to pronounce names are usually unhelpful.
