After reading all the responses on Semiconductor Packaging Materials Co. Inc. (SEMX)to Josh`s initial story. I thought I`d get my 2 cents in. I was hustled (yes hustled)by a phone call from a person that acted like a carnival barker stated he was from SANDS BROTHERS in NY City. This was over two years ago. After a long period of months I was put into 3,000 shares of SEMX at 10.50 in about March 1996. I was told the owner (Marty Sands) of SANDS BROTHERS and the CEO were close chums and all the good things that were going to happen during 1996. I was even provided with SANDS written report stating .90 in 1996 and 1.26 in `97.Very glorious quarterly earnings increases for each qtr. After recently selling @ 7.75 I learned that Mary Sands is on the Board, SANDS was involved in SEMX IPO Etc. SANDS also put me in several can~t lose situations which were all very bad loosers. Which I later learned were all companies that SANDS had participated in funding and/or stock offerings. I have first Hand knowledge and a costly experience That everything SANDS BROTHERS becomes involved in is not on the up and up. In fact I personally feel if SANDS is involved then everyone else is playing with a stacked deck. I have taken a very costly lesson from my 14 months experience with SANDS. On February 27, 1997 SANDS published their latest report on SEMX cutting 1st qtr earnings to .07, 2nd qtr .18, 3rd qtr.30 and 4th qtr .35. I would bet against any of the figures being close. In fact SANDS now say SEMX is a Long Term Buy (whatever that means)it was @ 10.25 as of that writing. I`m with Josh, but I feel SANDS should be included in the class action. I would be happy hearing from anyone that has had prior (or current) dealings with SANDS and/or their brokers GARY SLUTSKY or RICHARD QUAKNINE.
