When/If Dell buys CPQ, Dell will have a sizable investment in CMGI, one move that Dell denifitely wants in the internet Wouldn't that make Mark Peterson happy? Mark, are you listening?

Yes I am.

The fall off in some Inet valuations make it a distinct possibility that some form of consolidation will continue to occur within the Inet community. Like this summer. And CMGI acquiring Alta Vista in exchange for its stock certainly leaves the door open for Dell and CPQ.

However, when Dell can continue to grow organically by just taking on disgruntled CPQ customers, I'm not sure they'd do a hostile take-over of CPQ. And I can't see the CPQ board voluntarily approving a friendly offer by Dell. Just too expensive for Dell when the organic growth, like low hanging fruit, is all around you.

But there's certainly a great deal of wonderful things happening at CMGI and I wouldn't believe for a minute that DW et al have lost their collective minds, although others are free to disagree.
