PRI Awarded Automated Material Handling Order By Hitachi Competitive Win Expands Presence With Japanese Customers
BILLERICA, Mass., June 24 /PRNewswire/ -- PRI Automation, Inc. (Nasdaq: PRIA - news), the leader in semiconductor factory automation, today announced it has been chosen by Hitachi Semiconductor Systems Europe GmbH to automate its semiconductor manufacturing plant based in Landshut, Germany.
''This is a major win,'' said Mitch Tyson, PRI Automation's president and chief executive officer. ''It is PRI's first factory automation order from a Japanese supplier the size of Hitachi and a key win into our competitor's installed base.''
The fab-wide automation project is for the installation of PRI's new high- speed 200mm products including TurboStocker 200, AeroTrak(TM) 200, and the TransNet(TM) material control software. These products incorporate PRI's 300mm technology.
Hitachi chose PRI Automation after an extensive review of competitive offerings. PRI succeeded because it could automate an existing factory without affecting production as well as provide a solution, which improves overall system delivery times and, therefore, lowers the cost of ownership.
