Just curious...
Would the government be in violation of one's civil liberty to legislate and enforce the mandatory adoption of potential aborts by self-proclaimed "pro-life" advocates. It might address the tertiary social problems that arise with the unwanted birth of a child by, more often than not, a woman or couple of little means.
I think such a system might take the form of a lottery where, at random, the government assigned a something-addicted, soon-to-be-underprivileged, unborn to a wealthy or, better yet, middle-class, most likely anglo-saxon, religiously-influenced, pro-life family (or even organization).
One really could knock out several social pigeons with a single stone by (a) placating the anger of the pro-life enthusiast(s) who would otherwise be attempting, unsuccessfully, to prevent the abortion (b) comforting the mother knowing her unwanted child was in good hands and (c) eliminating the social issues surrounding the support of now endangered "sunshine" in the hands of teen mommy or parents, who would've spent the rest of their lives convincing themselves it was the better option, instead of finishing junior-high.
After all, if one truly values life, such a law would should be welcomed by members of the pro-life community.
Now, before the flame war and remarks ad hominem commence, I should emphasize this is proposal, a mere hypothetical, and nothing more. It just seemed like a somewhat logical solution to the heated bipolar pro-life vs. pro-choice discussion, albeit with a utilitarian bent.
Again, just curious... Scrumpy |
