<<<<.....Hey, check out what my ISP said on x2/56k......>>>>>
I asked them if they plan to roll out x2 soon........
ISP response: No, it's a little too early for us to roll out any X2 technology; there's still a lot of turmoil in the industry right now, with USR and Rockwell going head-to-head on this one; both realize how big this could be if their X2 technology "won" over the other, so both are playing hardball; neither flavor of X2 will currently work with the other technology. USR has the marketing edge while Rockwell has the lion's share of chip sets in-place in the market.
ISPs are walking into the cross-fire if they go with one or the other at this point. Our position is to wait and see. When there is an agreed upon standard that will work with most modems, we'll upgrade our equipment and roll it out. In the meanwhile, we'll let others be on the bleeding edge. It's a bit frustrating that the capabilities are there and it COULD happen quickly... but of course that's what USR wants to create, a groundswell of support that will benefit their market share. Our own position is to be compatible with as many modems as possible; doing so requires sticking with recognized, widely-supported standards. 56KB isn't there yet. ______________________________________________________ Angola, Indiana, and heavy into USRX .
