Just got back from the Ascend shareholder meeting. I raised this issue that Cisco has been harping about to Michael Ashby (CFO) and Bob Macklin (VP Marketing) and they said the same things. a) Cascade integration was a huge success showing Cisco was blowing hot air as usual. b) Merging into Lucent will be easier since,unlike Cascade merger, there will be no relocations as the entire new Lucent Internetworking Services group will be built around Ascend on the West coast. c) Cisco does not practice what it preaches. They made big purchases like Summa Four and Geotel on the East Coast and their local purchase of Stratacom is eating Cascades dust. But the Cisco marketing machine rolls on .. only difference is that less people are paying attention now. Last day of ASND today. -Hitesh
