CMon- A box is (or was) when an investor is long and sells a like amount in a short account, thereby preventing the gain, until the positions are merged....or vise-versa. Therefore, the positions is in all tense and purposes, closed. It was a tax prevention strategy, largely done by the wealthy with a short term profit, a few years back.

Maybe we are misunderstanding each other...?
