Gregor and all:

I just received the below E-Mail today. Amy was diagnosed and treated for breast cancer last year and this E-Mail is the rather somber situation today. Would all of you please pray for Amy?

"It is now confirmed that Amy's cancer has recurred as bone cancer. It appears to have recurred most severely in her spine and, in at least one location, has grown to the extent where there is some risk of her being paralyzed below lumbar disk 5. She underwent her first radiation therapy treatment today in order to minimize that risk by shrinking the tumor. She will have radiation treatments on that outbreak over the next two to three weeks. At that time, other therapies to attempt to control the growth of the tumor will be undertaken. This will probably, at least initially, entail a regimen of chemotherapy. There is no cure for this cancer. There is only treatment to attempt to control it for a number of years. The area of her spine being radiated is not the only place in her spine that is effected by tumor. It is the place that is currently causing the most trouble with pain and the possibility of paralysis. The radiation therapy will shrink the tumor and most likely eliminate the pain and any other threat of injury to her spine and nerves.

Despite news earlier this year of break through in treatments for this cancer, the clinical trials have not shown any real progress over the standard therapy. After we see the oncologist again in approximately three weeks, we will have a better idea as to the tumors' response to radiation therapy (which is only site specific) and a better idea as to future treatment for her and the prognosis on time of survival."

In Christ, Tom
