Malcolm,

I agree stocks that rise in price usually have good promotion.

As to what kind of investor I am. I myself am trying to figure that out. I'm not sure I can be cubby-holed into a single style. I have several brokerage accounts and follow more than one style. My mutual funds and long term core investments are usually gleaned from the top 5% in performance and must at least perform better than the S&P 500 in order for me to keep them very long. Except for the "concentrate on only one style" that Bill Mathews advocates; in one account I follow his general style. I have an account where I only speculate and do short term plays. While this does not fully explain my styles of investing, I measure my success by the growth of my account balances. All are in the black so I must be doing ok.

BTW I agree with Bill that one style is best but diversity has worked for me so I will continue.

In answer to your inquiry; yes I'm positioned.
