I have got to stop leaving town. Two weeks in a row now something big has happened with S3. What am I in store for next week? I was originally pissed off at the announcement of the DIMD deal, since I am a shareholder of both S3 and DIMD and was not pleased that DIMD gave back its approximate $1 rise from the day before the announcement and then some. After reading the news articles and posts, I am feeling a little better, especially if the $9/share deal is real. I think that DIMD has decent products but seems to have some major problems that keeps them from making money on them. They have a recognizable name in retail which has to be worth something to a company like S3 that can't even buy recognition thru a branding campaign. RIO is a another bright light and I am just salivating at the prospect of an IPO. Home networking is going to be huge and cable modems should also do decently. There is a lot of competition in all of these areas but at least S3 should get a little more respect by being diversified. I would not be surprised if someone like Creative or some other company comes in and buys up the lot to either be integrated into something larger or to be broken up and sold off in pieces for more than the price of the whole. Wish I had the money to buy S3. First thing I would do is move them to MA so that I wouldn't have to leave the area for work.
