I like the idea that Iomega's new Zip-CD will complement Iomega's existing 100-Mbyte Zip floppy instead of replacing it.

=====================================================================

Because the compact disc is so firmly a part of consumer life, Zip-drive maker Iomega this week will enter the market with the ZipCD, its first CD-RW product, through a partnership with Philips Electronics NV.

The ZipCD, a 4X-write/rewrite and 24X-read drive, is designed to complement Iomega's existing 100-Mbyte Zip floppy

drive, said Jon Robison, worldwide director of product management and marketing for Iomega's optical business in Longmont, Colo.

Although the ZipCD initially will target retailers, priced at about $300, Iomega will sell the drive to OEMs as well.
