Ouch, that hurt! Yes, I was rather stunned :(
Mind you, over the years, I've been slowly drifting from my libertarian/Republican roots, toward the centrist political position. Initially I voted for Bush, but eventually I got to really liking Clinton - for his appointment of Rubin, for his willingness to take on the unions, for NAFTA, for tackling the budget. I was deeply disappointed, not by his action on moral grounds, but rather that he'd take such a *stupid* chance - in the White House... boggles the mind. I couldn't believe it. OTOH, I despise the Republicans - the damn ayatollahs who tell people how they are supposed to live, I despise their narrow-mindedness, bigotry, religious fanaticism. It used to be that Republicans were for fiscal discipline, and for personal freedom, getting the government off our backs - that's when I liked them. Now, they are in the pork-barrel business just as bad, but in addition they try to get the government into people's bedrooms - no respect for individual freedom, and choice! So happens that I am a straight white protestant male - but I strongly object to the bigotry they exhibit toward anyone who doesn't fit with their fundamentalist Christian baloney. That's when I decided that I'd rather be independent, or even vote Democratic - just to get rid of the Republican taliban.
Enough, or this is turning too political :)
