Linda,

I know you can have an individual and a joint account, and I think you can have an IRA individual and joint as well. If you are not married, and don't have any of the shares in an IRA, I would guess you may be stuck with 1 account.

If you can set up 2 accounts, I would probably do it and use the different codes in 2 different accounts.

As far as a W-9, that is poorly documented. It caused me problems on my first account. On the second one, I just printed one out and sent it along with the paperwork.

I wouldn't worry too much about the check. If the funds don't show up in time, you can wire some money at that point (if of course you have any left).
