I tried to find IPO balance sheets and proforma, no luck. I used the year end 1995 balance sheet, and the 1st 1/2 1995 stock price/market cap.(stock price $10) 1995 Market Cap = $323M Equity $87.5M I used 12/31/98. Stock price $18. 1998 Market Cap = $732 Equity $243.4M Retained equity over the period was $159.9M, increase in market value $409. The dollar rule = $2.56. Not bad, but it's better now. At a $30 stock price, Market cap is $1,221M. Dollar rule = $5.76. Just a bed time story.
