<Like it or not, Intel has one of the strongest brandings on the planet right now. The article I posted is just one data point, but I believe indicative. Something to consider when talking about great designs, and if AMD can manufacture chips. Many pieces to the Intel puzzle, IMHO. >

I don't think there are many people who doubt the strength of Intel brand. The ad dollars of one of the most successful companies ever makes sure that is the case. But, at the end of the day, someone has to quantify what it is worth.

Look at the retail sales numbers - AMD is in more than 42% of the desktops and and above 48% of the laptops (PC Data - May 99). This starting from almost nothing (especially on the laptop side) 6 months back. That got to mean something!
