[Guessing out loud]

Pigboy --

I think the Becks can stay. But I'm getting confused so hear me out. That's what friends are for, right?

Okay, TeleChoice announces they have a news scoop coming at 2:00 a.m., March 20. An hour or so later MCI says they're holding a press conference at 12:30 EST, the same day. The MCI webpage has TeleChoice right there as big as life. The same thing happened with the BT announcement---TeleChoice had some tie-in then, too.

So here's my thinking, if it's the MCI news---they qualify since they're definitely a carrier---why would TeleChoice scoop them with the 2:00 a.m. release? Wouldn't that be over-kill? But then (playing my own devil's advocate), what other carrier could be making an ADSL-related announcement? BT? GTE? One of the Bells? It's possible, but why would TeleChoice consent to a March 20 release for another carrier if the one they're clearly involved with---MCI---is announcing that same day? It just doesn't seem right. I have to think the 2:00 a.m. and the 12:30 are both MCI. There, I've said it, but I only three-quarters believe it. (Remember, Alcatel is still a puzzlement.)

Okay, you may well be saying, where does that put Amati? In terms of MCI, they're involved through NEC/Australia, so they may not even be mentioned.

There are royalties involved with any of the vendors who've licensed DMT. But I think the biggest boost is the fact a huge carrier is announcing enlarged ADSL trials. As I've said before and will go on saying, it doesn't matter if it's CAP or DMT---just get the darn technology out there and we'll worry about details later. CAP racks and DMT racks can sit side-by-side in a company office and no one really cares. (Well most telcos want a standard, but that's another issue.) Telcos will market them accordingly. Scrooge who smokes used cigarette butts and thinks a 6" black and white TV is plenty good enough will choose CAP and Stefan who drives a Dino and knows time is money will spring for DMT.

Yes, but what about a press release blessed by Pope Dow Jones with "Amati Communications and _____ Sign Major Contract" in huge letters????

That's what we have to figure out. :)))

I'm going to go fix dinner and will post again later.

Cheers!

Pat
