Trey - from Premenos's product literature:
TEMPLAR is a suite of software, service, and network solution products which provide organizations with an integrated solution for secure, reliable EDI over convenient and easy TCP/IP networks, including the Internet. With TEMPLAR you have a single resource for the products, services, and expertise you need to build a strong network infrastructure, enable your trading partner community, and secure your EDI transmissions.
Security Independent Of The Network Architecture The critical nature of your EDI data requires an extremely high level of security for transmission. Security may reside at virtually any level of your communications stack. Since security at one level may be bypassed by going to a higher level, the fundamental premise of TEMPLAR is that by providing security at the application level - the level closest to the data itself- your data will be secure no matter which network you use for transmission.
Security Independent Of The Mail Subsystem TEMPLAR security resides between your EDI translator and your mail subsystem. TEMPLAR can therefore secure data for transmission over virtually any message transport. In its initial release, TEMPLAR supports SMTP/MIME, the standard message protocol used for TCP/IP networks like the Internet. In future releases, TEMPLAR will be expanded to support other mail protocols such as Microsoft Exchange, Lotus Notes and X.400.
Authentication Agent TEMPLAR serves as an Authentication Agent to ensure data integrity, authentication, non-repudiation of origin, and non-repudiation of receipt. Non-repudiation of receipt is not available in standard encryption solutions.
Standards TEMPLAR incorporates the most advanced EDI, security, and communications standards to ensure solid performance and complete reliability. The proven standards which TEMPLAR uses or supports include SMTP/MIME, TCP/IP, RFC 822, RSA, DES, UN/EDIFACT, and ANSI X12.
* this is not an endorsement for the product. I do not work or use their products or have an interest in the company except for this year's tax refund which is the process of going down the toilet. Cheers,
