Steve,

Re: Isn't there going to be enough business to feed all the fish, EMC, HWP, IBM etc? I
would think so, especially once voice and video comes on line. It seems to be an
overreaction, IMHO."

I think you're right. When the IBM news came out, the reports made it sound like IBM was the new kid on the block in storage. The articles didn't say that when EMC became #1, they unseated IBM. IBM is trying to get back lost business, which is very understandable. About IBM, they seem to have gotten a whole lot more vocal and blow their own horn the last few years; maybe it's the Gerstner regime. They used to quietly release new products, maybe not wanting to send a heads up to the competition. Lately, just the opposite. In the semiconductor area, they made a huge splash about copper and silicon on insulator last year. In storage, they recently announced doubling of density to 20 or so gigabytes per square inch of magnetic media space. They would have kept this quiet in the old days. New paradigm at IBM, but it doesn't mean they are any better than before, IMO (they've always been kick a** in technology).
