He [Churchill] did know just what was what with the Communists, but no one would listen to him... Actually, Blue, everybody listened to Churchill after his Iron Curtain Speech -- and acted accordingly. British conservatives of the Churchillian stamp & class had always been exceedingly anti-Communist (and often anti-Semitic as well). That was one of the reasons they were initially reluctant to move against Hitler: they regarded the anti-Communist Hitler as a "bulwark" against the (supposedly Jewish) Threat from the East...That of course did not prevent Churchill from being a great wartime leader of the effort against the Nazis. (Edit: Or from "handing over" all that territory to Stalin at Yalta.) Joan
