A couple of Webs to weave

If you're still searching for an Internet stock that's got untapped potential, check out Multex's Internet Analyst website. Dean Tomasula weeds through the analyst and investment bank recommendations to find the most interesting ones and this week he singles out a couple of stocks that are not only in the web business, but put the web in their name. USWEB/CKS ( USWB: news, msgs), which serves business clients with website solutions, get a STRONG BUY-SPECULATIVE rating from Dain Rauscher Wessles, which puts a 12 month target price of 50 on the stock. Dain Rauscher says there is no fundamental reason for the stock's current weakness which makes for a compelling buying opportunity. The brokerage estimates earnings per share at 0.45 this year and 0.70 for next and says it expects the company to post an excellent quarter marked by strong revenue growth and improving operational efficiencies. EarthWeb ( EWBX: news, msgs), a business-to-business online services provider for IT professionals, earns a STRONG BUY recommendation from Volpe Brown Whelan which puts a target price of 68 on the stock. It says the company will likely report a loss of $3.68 for 1999 but expects that to decline to $2.28 by next year. Volpe Whelan considers EarthWeb's stock at a 60 percent discount to comparable companies.
