Not all client states of the Soviets were communists. Iraq, Syria, Libya, etc. are not considered communist regimes. As the NY Times reported, the KLA has started to purge dissent in their ranks. They needed the extra bodies to wage a war. They won't need them now. The purges in the Soviet Union and China started not long after the communists gained power.
