Dave B, RE: If everyone had to go long, at least the market wouldn't necessarily be the zero-sum game that it is when one group is short and the another is long. Even if every single share of the outstanding shares were sold short, there still would be twice as many people long as short. It never is a zero sum game in the stock market, there always is a loss of wealth when a stock goes down and a gain in wealth when a stock goes up.
