Regarding possible buyers for Cybermedia:
1. Microsoft is always possible, but unlikely here.
2. Maybe Stac, which is in the utilities field somewhat. (Lots of cash, but struggling otherwise.)
3. Netscape, maybe to expand on its name, but not a good Internet fit, unless you consider Oil Change an Interner product.
4. Softbank, if it ever decides to get in the software development business, which I think they would do well at.
5. Citrix, if it wanted to diversify. But currently, they go for the high end of the remote access market and don't seem interested in the consumer side.
Actually, Quarterdeck might make a good acquisition for Cybermedia. It has a nice little portfolio of products, but can't seem to manage them well.
But overall, I agree that it is difficult to make a compelling case for a company buying Cybermedia.
