Quick answer - in general, the current generation of DLCs deployed in the field cannot support xDSL service. So, DLCs are needed to provide xDSL service past the CO boundaries, and only new ones can support xDSL. Here's the kicker - only certain xDSL products are supported by only certain DLCs. I posted a compatibility list of ADSL vs. supporting DLCs a while back on the thread if you can find it.
